Chang-Ling Ku's Two-Way Convertible Socks Lead to Soaring Sales

Ku Chang-ling returned to Taiwan in 2005 after completing his studies in New Zealand. Inheriting his father Ku Yung-lai's legacy in the construction industry, he entered the architectural glass contracting business. This inspired and emboldened Ku Chang-ling, who in 2016 resolutely threw himself into the textile industry, a field completely different from his family business, to pursue his own dream and create the "FLIPPOS Reversible Socks" brand.

After two years of product development, the door to his dream opened on the "Zeczec Crowdfunding Platform" at the end of 2018. It also set the highest fundraising amount for this product category in Taiwan, a record that remains unbroken to this day.

The prototype of "FLIPPOS Reversible Socks" had already begun to sprout in Ku Chang-ling, as he was an equipment enthusiast for sports and had long observed street culture. He then conceived "functional compression" apparel to enhance athletic performance, applying it to daily life to create an all-purpose compression sock with "cultural literacy and trendy aesthetics." Through creativity and ingenious design, the socks can change length in one second, turning long socks into short socks, combining enhanced athletic performance with recovery, perfectly embodying the essence of "two-sword style."

With the uniqueness of the product, it quickly gained market attention, becoming the first co-branded manufacturer for the Taipei Film Festival in 20 years. Along with the launch of peripheral products, it rapidly expanded its distribution channels domestically. Within a year, Reversible Socks were available in major department stores and sporting goods stores across Taiwan.

Ku Chang-ling stated that "FLIPPOS Reversible Socks" boasts excellent product quality and compelling stories behind the products, such as the beauty and sorrow of the Hongye Little League Baseball team, the racial issues of the North American Indian Wars, the preservation of Maori culture by indigenous New Zealanders, global warming and whale strandings, or the helpless feelings of rural children striving in big cities.

These stories are not unfamiliar to foreigners, easily touching hearts, creating resonance, and increasing brand loyalty.

Additionally, through exposure from foreign influencers and bloggers, as well as precise social media advertising, it successfully attracted the attention of international distribution channels. Therefore, even with the impact of the pandemic in Taiwan this year, Reversible Socks were able to compensate for the domestic demand shortfall with export sales.

Currently, Reversible Socks have over ten physical distribution channels in Hong Kong and Macau, with continuous expansion into other countries. Ku Chang-ling has broken Taiwan's stereotype as an OEM No.1, shining on the global stage with worldwide creativity and substance.

Ku Chang-ling emotionally remarked that rock musicians use music to convey messages, while FLIPPOS presents stories graphically on socks, promulgating life values.

Creating desirable product stories

Every traditional manufacturing industry wants to build a brand. Often, a lot of money is spent on marketing, boosting sales, but failing to create memorable products. Consumer repurchase rates are poor, and brands fizzle out in a few years.
