The socks depict the all-encompassing nature of marine life using the traditional Māori Moko tattoo style. The composition has the tail of the whale as the head, and the ghost manta ray in the middle is likened to a whale rider. In Māori culture, the ghost manta ray is like a massive cloak symbolizing the soul’s protector.
The sea turtle in the background represents love and peace, while on the two sides the whales leaping from the water are like the whale rider silently guarding the ocean.
Because Māori live by fishing, the body has a fish hook (Hei Matau) ring in the hope that the person who owns this pair of socks will have good fortune.
FLIPPOS MCP (Maze Cushioning Plus)
Among Māori communities in New Zealand, an ancient legend tells of an ancestor who rode upon a whale and led his people through storms to reach Aotearoa. Because of this story, the whale came to represent spiritual guidance, strength, and tradition.
Whale Rider (Te Kaieke Tohorā) is a well-known novel that was later adapted into an internationally acclaimed film. The story follows a young girl named Paikea, who grows up within a deeply patriarchal society. Despite her strength and ability, she is denied the right to inherit leadership because of her gender. Over time, however, she discovers that she has inherited her ancestor’s gift of communicating with whales. When a group of whales becomes stranded on the shore, Paikea helps guide them back to the sea, ultimately challenging the chief’s deeply rooted traditional beliefs.
By the end of the story, Paikea helps the whales return home, mirroring the ancient legend in which the whale once guided her people to land. The story carries themes of heritage, ecological continuity, and transformation. It also reminds us that even long-standing traditions such as gender inequality are human-made ideas—and that when perspectives change, destiny can change with them.

#FLIPPOS Socks Design
The design interprets the richness of marine life through a visual language inspired by traditional Māori Moko. The composition begins with a whale tail, while the manta ray at the center represents the Whale Rider. In Māori-inspired symbolism, the manta ray resembles a vast protective cloak, representing a guardian of the spirit. The sea turtle behind it symbolizes love and peace, while whales breaching on both sides create the feeling of the Whale Rider quietly watching over the ocean.
Because Māori communities have traditionally lived closely with the sea and relied heavily on fishing, the fish hook, or Hei Matau, became an important cultural symbol often worn as a pendant. We incorporated the fish hook into the design as a wish for good fortune for everyone who wears this pair of FLIPPOS Socks.
When FLIPPOS Socks are flipped down, the design reveals elements inspired by Raranga, the traditional Māori art of weaving. Raranga holds an important place in Māori culture, and more than 50 varieties of Harakeke (New Zealand flax) have traditionally been used to create garments, ornaments, artworks, and baskets for carrying fish. Here, the woven motif represents abundance, prosperity, and a plentiful harvest.

The original idea of FLIPPOS hosiery is to create a pair of compression stocking fulfilling functions in every way. You could wear it to the office and exercise after work as well. Simply with ONE SAME pair of stocking.
Considering that most people either sit or stand for a long time for work in which cause the fatigue condition upon feet and calf, we develop our hosiery to apply ‘graduated compression’ from the sole of the foot to calf to improve this situation.
Additionally, wearing FLIPPOS during exercise could reduce muscle vibration effectively, produce greater strength, and improve the speed of fatigue recovery after exercising.
Flip the length, flip the attitude.
In order to cater for any occasion and any outfit, FLIPPOS creates the first compression hosiery that can be folded. You could wear it knee-high or fold it to the calf. The item can be transformed into socks within seconds.
★Length BEFORE flipping: Knee-High
★Length AFTER flipping: 18cm above ankle
FLIPPOS MCP (Maze Cushioning Plus)
FLIPPOS’ ultimate goal is the pursuit of the ultimate product. This time we have upgraded our original patented maze cushioning to strengthen the sole’s “knitted maze damping.” Both the hardness and the rebound speed are significantly improved, so when running, jumping or climbing, the notable shock-absorbing effect means no loss of power and full athletic release.

If you are still have issue with the Size, please feel free to contact us. All values in the table are approximate. The compression and elasticity will be a little different cause by the sock patterns.
If your calf circumference is wider, we recommand you to get the one size bigger sock which will be more comfortable and suitable for you.
