In 2019, Australia experienced its most severe bushfires in modern history. Extreme heat and prolonged drought allowed the fires to spread rapidly.
Since September 2019, the bushfires have scorched over 4.9 million hectares of land, equivalent to 1.35 times the area of Taiwan. Hundreds of millions of wild animals lost their habitats, and countless lives were forced to flee the fires.
That year, FLIPPOS, established only two years prior, decided to donate all proceeds from the sale of their Australian-themed "Wake Up a Dinosaur Kangaroo Reversible Socks" to Australian wildlife rescue efforts.
And these reversible socks tell the story of that year.
The Australian animals on the socks come from the wilderness and the red earth landscape. When the socks are flipped, a koala is hidden, dedicated to the lives that continue to strive after passing through the flames.

    DETAILS AND INSPIRATIONS

In 2019, Australia experienced its most severe bushfires in recent history.
That year, Australia suffered a prolonged drought and record-breaking high temperatures. Under the influence of extreme weather and strong winds, the fires rapidly spread across vast forests and wilderness areas.
According to statistics at the time, since September 2019, the bushfires had burned over 4.9 million hectares of land, equivalent to 1.35 times the size of Taiwan.
Thick smoke covered the entire sky, hundreds of millions of wild animals died or lost their habitats, countless families were forced to evacuate their homes, and large numbers of kangaroos, koalas, and other wildlife perished in this disaster.
These wildfires also prompted global re-evaluation of the impacts of global warming and extreme weather.
At that time, FLIPPOS had only been established for two years. We were not a mature brand, didn't have many resources, and even our finances were still struggling.
However, Johnny, the founder who grew up in New Zealand, always had a deep affection for the lands of the Southern Hemisphere.
Every day, he watched the news—koalas burned, kangaroos fleeing fires, the red sky covered in thick smoke—and he simply couldn't stand by as an observer.
So, when the brand was still very small, FLIPPOS made a decision:
To hold a charity sale for the "Wake Up a Dinosaur Kangaroo Reversible Socks," which feature Australian themes, and donate all proceeds to Australian wildlife rescue organizations.
It was from that year onwards that Johnny quietly set a goal for FLIPPOS:
"Every year, we must do something for charity, it doesn't have to be grand, nor does it have to be seen. But we hope that FLIPPOS's existence, in addition to bringing joy and creativity, can also genuinely leave something behind for the world."
Later, Johnny slowly realized that the story of these socks was actually very much like his own life.
After experiencing broken trust, betrayal, and downturns, the real difficulty isn't the world becoming cruel, but whether you are still willing to choose kindness after being hurt.
Just like those lives that, after passing through the flames, still strive to live.

    #ReversibleSockDesign
The inspiration for these reversible socks comes from the Australian wilderness and its wildlife.
The kangaroos, lizards, crocodiles, and kookaburras on the socks symbolize the diverse forms of life on Australian soil; some run across the wilderness, some lurk in rivers, and some fly in forests and skies.
The earthy tones and rock patterns are derived from Australia's red land scenery and ancient rock art culture.
When the sock is reversed, a koala is hidden, like a life that struggled to survive after escaping flames deep in the forest, and also like the tenderness that is still preserved amidst chaos and pain.
For FLIPPOS, what is reversed is not just the length of the socks, but the willingness to still choose kindness after experiencing life's low points.
Because some people choose to become indifferent after being hurt, but there are also those who, even after passing through flames, still choose to retain the tenderness in their hearts.
