Ka Mate has been designed to express the integration of ethical diversity and the respect towards the traditional culture from New Zealand.
The Haka is a traditional Māori performance from New Zealand. Historically, it was performed before battle to strengthen morale and confront opponents. Today, one of the best-known examples is performed by New Zealand’s national rugby team, the All Blacks, before matches. Beyond expressing strength and determination, the Haka also represents deep respect—for the team’s own cultural heritage, for the audience, and for their opponents.
But the Haka is not limited to sporting events. It can also be performed to warmly welcome guests, celebrate significant achievements, mark gatherings between communities, and honor the deceased at funerals as an expression of remembrance and respect.
The Haka most commonly associated with the All Blacks is called Ka Mate. Different Haka are performed for different occasions, but many feature powerful movements such as stamping the feet, striking the body, widening the eyes, and extending the tongue. When FLIPPOS Socks are flipped down, the design reveals a visual expression of the meeting between European and Māori cultures, symbolizing cultural exchange and traditions passed from one generation to the next.
New Zealand is widely recognized for its ongoing efforts to protect Māori culture and integrate indigenous traditions within contemporary society. Through this design, Ka Mate reflects the country’s multicultural identity and its respect for cultural heritage and tradition.
The original idea of FLIPPOS hosiery is to create a pair of compression stocking fulfilling functions in every way. You could wear it to the office and exercise after work as well. Simply with ONE SAME pair of stocking.
Considering that most people either sit or stand for a long time for work in which cause the fatigue condition upon feet and calf, we develop our hosiery to apply ‘graduated compression’ from the sole of the foot to calf to improve this situation.
