Children's Day in Japan (May 5th), originated from China's Dragon Boat Festival, is a day when families hang Koinobori (carp streamers) outside their homes.
Originally, Japanese samurai used banners to symbolize their identity. Later, due to the Chinese legend of "carp leaping over the dragon gate," these banners were changed to carp. In the legend, carp transform into dragons and ascend after leaping over a waterfall, symbolizing courage and success. This represents parents' hopes that their children will overcome difficulties and grow up healthy.
Thus, every Children's Day, colorful Koinobori flutter in the sky. Black or blue represents the father, red represents the mother, and green or other colors represent the children. When the Koinobori dance in the wind, it's like a parent's blessing, accompanying children to bravely pursue their dreams.
FLIPPOS Maze Cushioning Plus (MCP) Sock Insoles

Every year on May 5, Japan celebrates Children’s Day, when the sky comes alive with colorful carp streamers known as koinobori. Families hang them outside their homes, where they dance in the wind like gentle yet steadfast blessings for their children.
The tradition has roots in the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival. In earlier times, Japanese samurai used banners as symbols of identity and honor. Later, inspired by the Chinese legend of the “carp leaping over the Dragon Gate,” the carp became the central motif. Each one came to represent courage and hope, carrying parents’ wishes for their children to face challenges bravely, grow strong and healthy, and pursue their dreams.
Black or blue carp traditionally represent the strength of the father, red represents the care of the mother, while green and other vibrant colors represent the energy and dreams of the children. As the streamers sway in the wind and children look up at the sky, they become symbols of encouragement and protection—reminding them to keep moving forward, overcome life’s waterfalls, and boldly shape their own future.
#FLIPPOS Sock Design
The sock is built on a deep indigo base inspired by traditional Japanese samurai aesthetics, paired with soft pink cherry blossoms and koi rendered in a classic ukiyo-e style. Fine lines and layered colors create a sense of movement, symbolizing resilience and courage in the face of challenge while reminding you to stay focused and strong through difficult moments.
When the sock is flipped, Mount Fuji and a traditional torii gate are revealed. A snow-covered peak rises beneath the glow of the morning sun, capturing the feeling of breaking through the current after a long struggle—a journey from persistence to a new horizon filled with possibility and hope.

Japanese cultural symbols are reinterpreted through a contemporary ukiyo-e lens, with koi gliding through rippling water scattered with cherry blossoms. Blue-grey and soft pink tones come together to create a distinctly Japanese palette.

Once flipped, the design reveals Mount Fuji at sunrise. Vivid red light washes the sky in a dreamlike shade of pink, while the silhouette of a torii gate—symbolizing the entrance to a sacred realm—evokes a sense of blessing and good fortune.

The split-toe construction provides a more comfortable fit for runners wearing barefoot shoes or tabi-style footwear.
