The design makes use of traditional Amis patterns and adds some alterations. The Amis people deeply venerate nature and hold that the world contains all manner of nature deities and only through mutual respect may they all inhabit the land together.
As the Amis is a matrilineal society, women are prioritized in inheritance, so the use of army green with sun orange on the flip side has the name Ina (Mother).

1996 marked the 100th anniversary of the Olympic Games, celebrated in Atlanta, USA. The official theme song at the time, Return to Innocence, was created by the German group Enigma. Its powerful and deeply moving vocals captured global attention—and that voice came from Taitung, Taiwan. The original performers were Kuo Ying-nan and the Malan Choir.
At the time, however, Mr. Kuo had no idea that his voice had been used in the Olympic theme song. After the Olympics ended, Kuo Ying-nan and Enigma entered into a cross-border legal dispute that lasted for three years, eventually reaching a settlement.
The story began in 1988, when Mr. Kuo was invited by the Maison des Cultures du Monde in Paris to record the Amis traditional chant Jubilant Drinking Song. The recording was well received by the local press and later became the original vocal source for Return to Innocence. Unexpectedly, several years later, it found its way into the Olympic spotlight—while also introducing Taiwan’s cultural voice to the world.
#FLIPPOS Socks Design
The design draws inspiration from traditional Amis motifs, reinterpreted in a contemporary way. Because the Amis people hold a deep reverence for nature and believe that the world is inhabited by many spiritual forces, the design reflects the idea that only through mutual respect can all beings live together in harmony on this land.
As the Amis traditionally follow a matrilineal social structure, with family inheritance passed primarily through women, this design pairs military green with a sunlit orange revealed when FLIPPOS Socks are flipped down. The colorway is named "Ina", meaning “mother.”
The original idea of FLIPPOS hosiery is to create a pair of compression stocking fulfilling functions in every way. You could wear it to the office and exercise after work as well. Simply with ONE SAME pair of stocking.
